“Happiness is a state of mind. It's just according to the way you look at things.” - Walt Disney When I was 16 years old I graduated high school. I received a letter from my dad who had passed away 6 years before. In the letter he makes a statement that I later tattooed on my body. "find your happiness..." How do you find happiness and how do you keep it? One of my favorite quotes about happiness comes from a TV show I used to watch. the quote says: "So, I’ve been thinking about this whole “being happy” thing, especially since I’ve been doing this documentary. And I feel like people get lost when they think of happiness as a destination. We’re always thinking that someday we’ll be happy. You know, we’ll get that car or that job or that person in our lives that’ll fix everything. But happiness is a mood, and it’s a condition, not a destination. It’s like being tired or hungry. It’s not permanent. It comes and goes, and that’s okay. And I feel like if people thought of it that way, they’d find happiness a lot more often.." It's not that you either choose to be happy or not. It's that you find the things in life that make you happy...and you do them. Let the simple things excite you. Like the fact that the sun is shinning. Roll your windows down and blast your music in your car and sing. Let yourself be free. Get out of your head for a few minutes and act silly. This is where you'll find your happiness. When you truly just be yourself. Love who you are. Embrace it. I find mine when my husband is home and can watch the baby while I take a hot shower. Or when I can pause my day for 10 seconds to look around me and realize just how lucky I am to be standing here. We too often define happiness as one particular thing, as one particular feeling. It's so much more than that. And when you realize that you too will find happiness. So tell me, what's your happiness?
